Sequels dominated the weekend and Disney dominated the top spots at the box office as the second weekend of 4th of July helped continue a record year for box office numbers. Farther down the ranks a limited release shined ahead of its wide release and a documentary focusing on a beloved singer barely missed out on a top ten spot. Box Office Round-Up: “Jurassic World” Reigns While Newcomers Impress

Not a lot of drama at the top of the box office for the first of a pair of 4th of July weekends. Familiar current hits remained in the driver’s seat while an action sequel and a film based on a Pepsi commercial managed to drum up interesting numbers as alternate viewing options. We also got a surprise entry into the top-10 from Fox that shows appreciation for limited release viewings is still as high as ever. This is Box Office Round-Up from June 29-July 1 2018.

Several new films made their debut over the weekend including a long-awaited animated sequel, a Blaxploitation remake, a real-life gangster story and a unique comedy. But, the big stories are that one of these films shattered records and provided fans with long awaited fun while further securing the domination of its parent studio while another lived up to expectations as one of the biggest critical failures of the year.
